Fantastic news about the 23rd World Scout Jamboree! Marcus and Ollie have passed a grueling selection test at County level and have been selected to go to Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. To give you an idea of how difficult this was there were over 15 candidates at District level. With this in mind to have two from 1st Liss Scouts selected is a fantastic achievement. They will now form part of a much bigger UK contingent.
Although they will have moved on to Explorers at the time of the trip there is a very strong connection with 1st Liss Scout Group. Both of them have been very committed at Scouts. This dedication has been rewarded by them being able to represent not only Liss but the UK as a whole at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree. Obviously this is going to cost a small fortune and although we cannot fund them directly there will be numerous fund raising events being held for them, including a sweet sale at Liss Junior School. I would like to think we could all support them for this once in a lifetime trip.
In return for your support at these events the lads have offered to come back to 1st Liss Scouts and tell us all about their adventures on the other side of the world at the Japan Jamboree! In addition to this the two will be providing regular updates on here about the training and meetings required. This is necessary to get to know their fellow contingent members before the 3500 Scouts and Leaders go to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree on the other side of the world.
For further details on the 2015 World Scout Jamboree in Japan have a look on Facebook here. After 2015 the next Jamboree will be held in 2019 in North America. It is policy of the UK Scout Association that every Scout is given the opportunity to attend one World Scout Jamboree in their lifetime.
