Busy Beaver Weekend

The Remembrance weekend has been a busy Beaver weekend with the colony doing activities on 3 consecutive days.

Our usual colony meeting on Friday as all about Remembrance and we were lucky enough to have Yew’s husband as a guest at the meeting, he arrived in uniform with all his equipment and let members of the colony try it on. As well as showing us all the stuff he had to carry around he answered questions that the Beavers had about the military today and during the world wars.

At the end of the meeting on Friday we said good bye to James and Joe who swam across the river up to Cubs and the next part of their Scouting adventure. Then we finished off the meeting saying “Hello” to Harrison and Sam who were invested into the Colony.

Saturday was another busy day with most of the Beavers up bright and early and almost all the Colony headed off to Paulton’s Park for the great Beaver day out. Beavers from all over Hampshire turned up to meet Santa and enjoy time together. As it was Joe’s birthday Santa joined in singing him happy birthday. There were 48 people from 1st Liss in the park with many of the Beavers bringing along the rest of their family and we all had a good time trying out the rides on a unseasonably pleasant day. Two of the Beavers took Lee on a chauffeur driven tour of Peppa Pig World.

The final Colony event of he weekend. This time 12 Beavers  took part in the Liss Remembrance Sunday parade which was a really good turn out.

Fortunately the weather was even better than Saturday the the parade was bathed in bright sunshine. All the Beavers “marched” through the village from the British Legion to St Mary’s church and were very well behaved during the service.

Felix did very well as a standard bearer and Oliver helped lay the Scout Association wreath at the war memorial.

There are pictures of the Scouts and the wreath laying party on page 46 of the Petersfield Post (16 Nov).

Birch, Yew and Acorn would like to thank all the Beavers and their parents for taking part and making the weekend such a great success.

Next outing to look forward to will be the culmination of the Animal Friend badge and the trip to Pets at Home during the meeting on 25 Nov. We will be starting earlier at 5pm that evening.
